About Me

Wide range of topics is an important descriptor for me since I have such a diverse set of experiences to pull from. Whether in coaching, teaching or broadcasting there is no limit to topics or sports at which I will successful. Just to give you a little background I have coached teams to championships in 8 different sports including tennis, track, softball, baseball, football, golf, swimming and of course basketball. In spring and fall I would build a program to a few championships then get bored and switch sports. The only sport I have coached every year was basketball.

In basketball I have won over 84% of my games in 19 years of coaching and 15 league championships. My most recent stop was Reidsville High School. In the 25 years before I got to Reidsville they had not had a winning season. There is not a rec league for girls in that town so I built the program in every possible facet running middle school, jv and my varsity practices and clinics. During my time there I broke every record at our school, won 7 conference championships, and we appeared in the state tournament every year. All this while my team won the county GPA award 8 times in 10 years and I never had a player fail a class. As a teacher I also have a wide variety of background. I am certified in all 4 core subjects and I am thrilled that I get to dabble in just about every topic possible. My students and players can look to me for guidance no matter what topic they are studying.

I began coaching when just 18 and all of my years have been as a head coach. As a young college student and middle school coach I was able to watch almost all of Dean Smith’s last year of practices, then the first year of Coach Guthridge as the head coach. I spent a week as a guest of the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls training camp in order to learn the Triangle Offense thanks to Coach Gut making a call to get me in. Once I moved back to northwest Georgia, each weekend for 2 years I drove to Knoxville to watch Pat Summitt’s version of the Triangle. In the 20 years since I have gotten into coaching I have also gone to spend a few days with UCONN 4 times and twice to Stanford to learn about their versions of the Triangle. During summers I have worked numerous camps, but the most common are UNC men’s basketball camps and South Carolina’s women’s camps the first 4 years that Dawn Staley had gotten there. My offensive system is now a blend of Coach Smith’s Secondary Break with the Triangle and my defense is another Frankenstein’s monster of pieces. As a public school coach in an area lacking a good feeder program I could not be married to one system. I have to anything I can to find a way to put my players in the best position to succeed.

When it comes to broadcasting I have worked as a play by play lead, color commentator, and sideline reporter. Just like my coaching, when I broadcast I bring versatility and attention to detail. From games to studio shows and even documentaries my wide range of skills and background will allow me to be an integral and helpful part of great broadcast crews wherever I go.
